Share A Cup With A Brave Canuck! was proud to be one of a list of sponsors for the Fairways for Heroes 1st Annual Golf Tournament on June 9th, 2010.

Over $8000 was raised for the Canadian Forces Military Families Fund!!  This charity, started by former Chief of Defence Staff General (Ret’d) Rick Hillier in April 2007, raises funds to support the families of serving members of our Canadian Forces.  “It assists military families faced with unforeseen and often immediate needs that have resulted due to conditions of service.”  Visit http://www.cfpsa.com/en/corporate/mfamily/index.asp for more information on how you can help.

Our guests of honour included former CDS General (Ret’d) Rick Hillier, Director General of Land Staff Brigadier General D.W. Thompson, and CEFCOM Assistant Chief of Staff- Support Colonel D.A. Rundle.

All who attended, played, volunteered, and worked hard to make this tournament a success should be proud of their efforts!

I go to the bridge, and I stand with the others,
Neighbours, strangers, fathers, and mothers.
We wait in the cold, or we wait in the sun,
For the calvacade carrying Canada’s son.

Traffic flows under this place where we stand,
Horns honking, lights flashing, some waving their hands,
And we are connected this time in this space,
Feeling the loss of another sweet face.

It seems not to matter if we disagree
Or stand in support of their mission to free
Those folks over there in that faraway land;
We come for the soldiers – it’s for them we stand.

Those brave men and women who answered the call.
They’ve given their lives; what I give is so small,
An hour of my time to speak for my nation,
To welcome them home at this repatriation.

So I go to the bridge, and I stand with the others,
Neighbours, strangers, father, and mothers.
We wait in the cold, or we wait in the sun,
For the calvacade carrying Canada’s son.

Thank you for doing this. My brother is one of our brave Canucks; he’s in Afghanistan at the present time. I feel terribly inadequate in expressing my gratitude to our soldiers for keeping us safe.

My brother told me once that just knowing Canadians @ home appreciate what they do keeps them going; that it’s an honor to serve and a privilage to protect us back home.

This simple gesture of a cup of java from Tims goes a long way to remind them that they are in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks once again..

Rama EMS Paramedics (Chippewas of Rama First Nation) collected more than $1000 in Tim’s cards (more than $120 per full time paramedic). We are proud of our troops and very pleased to be able to express our support for them.

Here’s how her stint in war-torn Afghanistan gave her a greater appreciation for our soldiers – and our country.
When she wrote this essay, she was a month away from returning home.

My alarm goes off just before 5 a.m.  I pull on my bathrobe, pad down the hallway and open the plywood door to a gravel road and a line of large rounded tents surrounded by concrete highway dividers.  The sun is already up, and hundreds of birds have congregated in the few trees to bid the morning welcome with their cheerful chatter.  It is almost cool, but the promise of 50-degree heat hangs in the air.
